Registration Info
When is Kindergarten Registration?
The Enfield Public Schools holds Kindergarten Registration each year for a week in April. During the week Registration is held daily in each primary (K-2) school, on one evening at the Enfield Square Mall and one evening at the Angelo Lamagna Center. The school system receives names and addresses of all children meeting the age requirement from area preschools and day cares. A registration packet is mailed to these addresses in March. Notification is also posted in all area newspapers and on E-TV.
What age must a child be?
To be eligible for entrance into kindergarten at the opening of the school year, a child must be five (5) years of age on or before January 1 of the following year.
Is a Physical Required?
A health assessment is required prior to a student’s initial enrollment in a public school and the results recorded on the State of Connecticut Health Assessment Record (blue HAR) form. All of the required elements of the health assessment must be completed including a hematocrit or hemoglobin test.
Immunizations required for admittance:
- At least 4 doses of DTP, the last dose must have been given no sooner than the 4th birthday;
- At least 3 doses of polio vaccine, the last dose must have been given no sooner than the 4th birthday;
- HIB vaccine on any child under the age of 5 years;
- MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine on or after the 1st birthday;
- A second dose of measles vaccine or a second MMR;
- 3 doses of hepatitis B vaccine (HBV);
- 1 dose on or after the first birthday of varicella vaccine (or doctor’s signature to verify history of the disease, or blood titer).
Helpful Hints for Completing the Health Assessment:
- Call your pediatrician to verify the date of your child’s last well child visit (any physical done after September 1 of the current year is acceptable).
- Schedule an appointment if needed. Pediatrician’s offices are very busy in the summer. Appointments may be hard to make if you wait until summer.
- Review your child’s immunization record with your pediatrician. “Kindergarten shots” (DTP, Polio, MMR) can be given any time after the child is 4 years old. You do not have to wait until the summer before they start kindergarten.
- Complete page one of the CT Health Assessment Record (HAR-blue form) in your Kindergarten packet. Bring it with you and have your doctor complete Part II.
What to Bring When Registering?
- Child’s Birth Certificate, or a copy.
- Completed Registration Form.
- Completed Health Information for Registration and Health Assessment Record forms.
- Proof of immunizations (this may be your own record).
- Proof of residency (copy of rental lease, utility bill showing name and address).
