KITE recipient of Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive

February 19, 2013 - Enfield KITE was a recipient of this year’s Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive. The book drive ran from November 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012. Through the generosity of Barnes and Noble customers and the dedicatedwork of the Barnes and Noble book sellers KITE received 824 books which will be used to promote early literacy programs and other early education initiatives.

Accepting the book donation on behalf of KITE are Chris Gomeau, KITE Coordinator and Karen Weseliza, KITE Chair. Also pictured from Barnes and Noble are Laurie Wilson, Community Relations Manager and Rissa McCloskey, Asst. Store Manager.

KITE Parent Liaison Receives Award

November 15, 2012 - Enfield KITE's Parent Liaison, Jen Moncuse received the 2012 CT Parental Involvement Recognition Award presented by the State Education Resource Center (SERC) and the CT Parent Information and Resource Center (CT PIRC). Jen is a Head Start parent and a member of the KITE Leadership Work Group.

This award is given to individuals based upon their merits in each of the following:

  • Active involvement in their child's/children's school and/or community
  • Support of their local school and contributions to high quality education for all children
  • Evidence of their ability to make a difference in their local school and/or community
  • Dedication and advocacy to ensure equity for all parents and their children

Free “Lunch Bunch” Program Helps Enfield Lower-Income Families

June 27, 2012 - The Lunch Bunch is open to all children 18 years of age and younger. Its goal is to provide nutritious lunches during the months when free and reduced price school lunches are not available, helping lower-income parents make the most of their limited budgets.

KITE is a collaborative effort aimed at enhancing early education and child care opportunities in the Town of Enfield, Connecticut. KITE is supported by the William Casper Graustein Memorial Fund Discovery Committee, the Enfield Connecticut CT School Readiness Council, and the National League of Cities Committee. KITE (Key Initiatives To Early Education) combines all of these organizations into one strong working collaborative. Goals of KITE Provide information and resources about early education and child development to families in Enfield Connecticut CT. Educate the community on the value of early learning. Empower families to maximize their child's readiness for school. Offer professional development for early education providers in our community.
